Sunscreen Facts

Who needs sunscreen?

  • Everyone. People of all skin colors get skin cancer.
  • Many of these skin cancers could have been prevented with protection from the sun’s rays.

What type of sunscreen should I use?

  • Broad-spectrum protection protects against UVA and UVB rays.
  • Sun Protection Factor (SPF) 30 or greater.
  • Water resistance. Remember no sunscreen is “waterproof/ sweatproof”. Sunscreens should always be applied to dry skin. All sunscreens start to come off during activities; it is important that sunscreens be reapplied after towel drying.

When should I use sunscreen?

  • Every day if you will be outside. The sun emits harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays year round.
  • No sunscreen provides “all-day protection”. Remember to reapply about every two hours.
